Gearbox Comparisons/Adequate to Overbuilt
Here is an interesting comparison of British gearbox reverse idlers (the gear you engage when shifting into reverse). The gear on the left is from Triumph TR3B thru TR6 late. The center gear is Austin Healey four speed gearboxes. The gear on the right is full syncro Jaguar E Type. The Jag tremendously overbuilt, it looks like it could be Kenworth. These boxes are extremely difficult to break. The earlier Moss gearboxes fitted to XK cars and Morgan are very similar construction.
Triumph “A” Type Overdrive Explosion
Laycock overdrive annulus that experienced an imploded planetary gear set or uni-directional clutch. Be very careful when backing up in a Laycock equipped car. If your overdrive is still mechanically engaged through an electrical fault or a bearing lets go in the planetary, this is what it will look like. Very expensive to remedy.
1961 Standard 10 Companion Wagon
1961 Standard 10 Companion. Another installment of the “Cool Cars That Show Up Often” segment of this website. Owned by a good friend and faithful customer, it was brought in for storage to escape the Seattle winter rain. Very cool car brought from the U.K. a few years ago and lovingly improved since.
